Fire in Engine Room Rendered a Swiss Cargo Ship to Loose Propulsion and Drag Anchor!

1989

On June 19 at 12.20 a.m., a Swiss flagged general cargo ship suffered a fire aboard its engine room off Swinoujscie, Poland.

The fire briefly disabled the ship’s propulsion and hence the alert crew attempted an emergency anchoring maneuver, still it reportedly dragged anchors and hit the embankment.

The crew onboard used the ship’s fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire and also alerted the fire rescue Strażak-26.

The ship loaded with phosphate was reportedly enroute from Swinoujscie to Szczecin in Poland. Two tugs towed the vessel to the Swinoujscie port for inspection and repair. There were no reports of injuries or damage to the environment so far from the incident.
