Syngenta Crop Protection, a global leader in agricultural innovation, and Maersk, a leader in integrated logistics, have announced the extension of their fourth-party logistics (4PL) partnership for an additional five years. This renewed collaboration highlights both companies’ commitment to driving sustainable logistics through continuous supply chain optimization and innovation
What is 4PL?
A 4PL provider goes beyond third-party logistics (3PL) by managing resources, technology, infrastructure, and other logistics providers. This enables the design, construction, and delivery of customized supply chain solutions. It’s a key element of Maersk’s Logistics & Services offering, integral to the company’s strategy of providing leading supply chain management solutions.
Focus on Sustainability
The partnership’s foundation is a strong focus on sustainable logistics, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the supply chain. Both companies are aligning their efforts to meet ambitious decarbonization targets:
- Maersk aims for net-zero GHG emissions across its entire business by 2040.
- Syngenta is accelerating its efforts to decarbonize operations and set clear sustainability goals.
As part of the collaboration, both companies will engage in regular emissions reporting and ongoing dialogues to ensure that sustainability outcomes are consistently achieved and incorporated into their business performance metrics.
Resilience and Innovation
Over the past eight years, Syngenta and Maersk have successfully navigated several global disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Red Sea crisis. Through these challenges, the partnership has significantly increased resilience and identified key opportunities to reduce GHG emissions from Syngenta’s supply chain. Both companies aim to leverage digital logistics and artificial intelligence to further optimize their operations and enhance supply chain efficiency.
Leadership in Sustainability and Innovation
Mike Hollands, Global Head of Production & Supply at Syngenta Crop Protection, commented:
“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Maersk, a company that shares our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Our collaboration has already proven its value, and we look forward to reaching new milestones together, continually improving our supply chains through cutting-edge solutions.”
Maersk’s perspective, according to Jens L. Dinsen, Head of Maersk’s Logistics & Services:
“The journey we are on together with Syngenta underscores Maersk’s role as an integrated logistics provider. By continuously innovating on behalf of our customers, we contribute to optimizing and simplifying their supply chains, adding greater value to their business.”
