Tank Barge Lost Oil After Grounding

The owners of tanker barge Stavo which was berthed at an oil quay have been slapped with salvage costs.

What happened?

The “Stavo” remained berthed at the oil quay at the Donaulände in Vienna on Feb 8, the master and owners are facing salvage costs for an amount of some 100.000 Euro and other consequences.

The Donau Service agency has launched an investigation on the environmental damages after it found that a pipe on the barge had ruptured and an unknown amount of oil spilled into the Danube.

The Hungarian master who was found to have been intoxicated will be prosecuted and his certificate as master will be withdrawn temporarily.
