Tanker Crew Fell Overboard Fixing Pilot Ladder and Goes Missing!

Tanker crew fell overboard while fixing a pilot ladder to take the pilot on board, on arrival at Fos-sur-mer, France went missing, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

A 55-year old Latvian seaman, crew of Latvian tanker ELANDRA BALTIC, fell overboard in the morning Apr 13. He fell while fixing a pilot ladder to take the pilot on board, on arrival at Fos-sur-mer, France. 

Rescue operations

SAR was launched, with deployment of helicopter, SAR speedboat, pilot boats and inflatable boat. But unfortunately, the missing seaman wasn’t found in spite of calm weather.  

SAR was suspended in the afternoon. Tanker was anchored at Fos-sur-mer anchorage at around 1000 UTC.
