It has been allegedly reported that a tanker was penalized for disposing waste at sea.

What happened?

On February 7, 2017, the water police in Keil during a routine check found that the tanker Amber 1 had false waste and missing notices and suspected that food waste was disposed of at sea.

The policemen declared that the crew stored the waste on board, outside of its collecting points and unsorted.

The tanker violated the international agreement MARPOL (Annex V) with the wrong notices and has been suspected of wrongly disposing of its garbage.

The Federal Maritime and Hydrography Agency issued a security guarantee: the first officer of the ship has been ordered to pay 100 Euros.

The ship had docked in Kiel at 8.25 a.m. and continued its voyage to Nynäshamn at 12.45 p.m.

An investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events.
