The Master of the Great Eastern owned Suezmax ‘Jag Laadki’ has been banned from commanding vessels calling at Fujairah.

What happened?

According to local sources, the banning was as a result of his vessel colliding with the anchored LNG tanker ‘Al Khattiya’ and the LPG carrier ‘IGLC Anka’ at Fujairah anchorage on 23rd February.

Rules ignored:

According to a statement posted online from the Port of Fujairah, an investigation revealed that the ‘Jag Laadki’s’ Master, Capt. Aniruddha Paraukar, had poor knowledge in manoeuvring ships and ignored the ‘International Rule of Routes’, which ultimately led to the collision.

The two gas carriers were anchored in the anchorage’s ‘D’ area. Visibility and weather conditions were described as good at the time of the incident.

Master banned:

Based on investigations, the Fujairah Port Authority ruled that Capt. Paraukar will no longer be allowed to command vessels calling on Fujairah or at the Fujairah anchorage.

Fine slapped:

In addition to the banning, a fine of AED 80,000 (about $21,800) was imposed on the Master for ignoring the routeing rules and causing a threat to nearby vessels.

The fine will be debited to the account of Yacht International, the ship’s local agent, the statement said.
