The product tanker Volgoneft-160 reportedly ran aground after completing a maneuver with 4,144 tons of bunker fuel on river Volga.
The vessel was on its way to Port of Kavkaz in Azov Sea when it made a critical maneuver to change shipping channels that resulted in the tanker running aground at the stern. Attempts to refloat the product tanker Volgoneft-160 on its own power did not succeed and assistance from the local authorities was requested. The tanker is surrounded by oil booms to prevent environmental pollution.
There were no reports of damages and oil leak from the incident, but the hazmat team was sent to monitor the area for water pollution. Towing tugs were getting ready to tow the tanker to safe depth.
The traffic in the area is not affected, as the grounded tanker is partially outside the fairway. The vessels are passing through the accident spot with reduced speed cautiously, reports say.
