Tanker Runs Aground in Shipping Channel

On August 25, an oil tanker reportedly loaded with 373,000 gallons of fuel reportedly ran aground in a shipping channel between New York and New Jersey.

What happened?

The oil tanker ‘Kamome Victoria’ reportedly ran aground in a shipping channel between New York and New Jersey. The tanker notified the Coast Guard it had run aground south of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge while traveling outbound.

Vessel salvaged:

An initial assessment has found that the tanker did not suffer any structural damages. The Coast Guard is currently investigating the grounding and will determine a salvage plan soon. Fortunately, no one was injured during the grounding incident and no pollution to the environment was reported.
