On May 19, a Mexican tuna fishing boat caught fire at the south of the Chacahua Bay, off the coast of Oaxaca.
What happened?
The Mexican tuna fishing boat ‘Adriana’ caught fire around 150 nautical miles south of the Chacahua Bay, off the coast of Oaxaca. There were twenty four crew members and two dogs onboard the vessel when the fire broke out.
Tanker rescues crew
The twenty four crew members present onboard the vessel were safely rescued by a tanker vessel ‘Centenario’ present in the vicinity.
The tanker was enroute to Salina Cruz from San Carlos, Baja California, when it received a distress call from the stricken vessel.
Cause of fire unknown
The cause for the vessel catching fire is unknown and is suspected to have occured due to faulty circuit. The tanker with the rescued crew members arrived at the port of Salina Cruz. On May 19, a patrol boat ‘Mitla’ of the Semar sailed from Bahías de Huatulco towards the blazing vessel to assess the situation.
