A tanker ship struck Spain Street Wharf in New Orleans causing substantial damages.

According to the reports, a large tanker ship, being unladen, struck into the Spain Street Wharf near Crescent Park.  Fortunately, it did not damage Jefferson Parish water intake area.

The reports on Wednesday morning revealed that the Jefferson Parish water intake pipe and infrastructure located in the Mississippi River had been damaged during this incident. But after a thorough investigation and inspection the authorities said that there was no damages to the pipe nor the water quality is affected

Presently, the vessel docked on the river near Algiers has been restricted to general anchorage, pending needed repairs and further investigation.

Marigny resident Gracia Siegel was astonished seeing the damages. She said: “I saw the damage and it was pretty scary. It’s a good thing a wharf was here. We’re right in the bend and we’re very vulnerable. The Louisa Street Wharf was hit a couple of weeks ago, so it’s very scary.”

On Facebook: Roberts posted :  “The Coast Guard is not reporting any spill in the river, The water intakes are also protected in that fashion from allowing intrusion in the event there was a spill. All is fine with JP water. It is our understanding the vessel was empty and has been secured.”
