On Sep 29, the Dutch flagged, self propelled tank barge “Anka”, 1491 ts, suffered a leak in the fuel tank on the Elbe-Side-Canal.

The barge was on its way from Scharnebeck when the crew noticed an oil loss and took immediate measures to alleviate the situation.  The fuel was immediately pumped out of the damaged part into the undamaged tank.

The ship was later towed to the port of Wittinger for inspection and repairs by divers.  The fire and rescue team were on scene with 60 men from Lüder, Bodenteich and Uelzen involving a hazmat team.  The canal authorities and the water police were on alert to help in the rescue.
