Offshore drilling company Cox Operating LLC, USA, sued Turkish manager of a Suezmax tanker ATINA for an alleged contact with COX’s oil platform, which took place on October 17, reports Maritime Bulletin.
Compensation for damages
COX is claiming $225 mil compensation for serious damages sustained by platform, and for operational losses, because platform is inoperative after the accident, personnel being evacuated.
According to ATINA track, contact occurred early in the morning October 17, shortly after tanker passed East Pilot Station, Mississippi Delta, and was anchored in Gulf of Mexico. Reportedly, she drifted while at anchor, or in process of dropping anchor, and contacted platform corner.
She was brought to anchor near contact site and was moved to Galveston Anchorage during October 22-23. The vessel remained there at anchor in detention after Court’s rule. Tanker left Houma Mississippi on October 16.
