- Technip Energies begins on-site management at the dormant Vasilikos LNG terminal, focusing first on assessing the current project status and starting contractor tenders.
- ETYFA is working closely with the VPSM consortium to resume jetty construction, pending jetty condition inspections to address potential corrosion or damage from prolonged sea exposure.
- Weather limitations restrict sea-based work to July through October, making it challenging to complete the jetty within this short construction window.
Technip Energies representatives are set to visit the dormant Vasilikos terminal construction site tomorrow, marking their first on-site engagement since being appointed project manager by ETYFA to restart work on the liquefied natural gas regasification terminal. Following the contract’s activation earlier this week, Technip Energies has gained full access to all project documents and plans. The initial focus will be on assessing the current state of the terminal and beginning the tender process to select contractors for the onshore infrastructure, based on the information presented by In-Cyprus.
Jetty Completion and Condition Assessment
ETYFA continues to engage with the VPSM consortium, comprising Multimarine Services and Spanopoulos Group, to finalize the contract for resuming work on the jetty where the FSRU Prometheus will dock. Recent issues within the consortium have largely been resolved, and consultations are progressing, although a financial agreement has yet to be reached.
Currently, inspections are underway to evaluate the condition of the jetty’s installed elements, including metal piles and other infrastructure, which have been exposed to the sea for an extended period without proper protection following CPP’s abrupt suspension of work. Assessing potential corrosion or displacement is critical, as any significant damage may require additional repairs and costs.
Final negotiations with VPSM will take place once the jetty’s condition is fully assessed. ETYFA aims to sign the contract by June and resume construction in July. However, weather conditions at Vasilikos limit sea-based work between November and March, meaning the main construction window will be from July to October. This period, though maximized, is expected to be insufficient to complete the jetty fully.
