13 suspects arrested for plotting to bomb Suez canal.
The Suez Canal is the prime maritime shipping route between Asia and Europe and an important source of hard currency for Egypt. A group of 13 suspects including an employee of Suez Canal Authority were arrested for installing explosives around the canal and planting bombs on the beaches adjoining the canal along the 120 mile long route.
It is said that the intent was to disrupt shipping as well as the peace in the country.
