Thailand is witnessing a sharp increase in COVID-19 infections, with over 53,000 new cases and five deaths recorded in a single week, according to the Department of Disease Control under the Ministry of Public Health.
Weekly Spike in Cases
Between May 18 and 24, Thailand recorded 53,563 COVID-19 cases, marking a notable rise from 49,065 cases reported the previous week (May 11–17). Of the recent cases:

Age Groups Most Affected
The highest number of infections was reported among:

Adults aged 30–39: 10,740 cases

Adults aged 20–29: 9,527 cases

Bangkok and Nearby Provinces See Highest Case Numbers
The top five provinces with the most cases from May 18–24 were:

Bangkok: 9,539 cases

Chon Buri: 3,379 cases

Samut Prakan: 2,491 cases

Nonthaburi: 2,278 cases

Rayong: 2,210 cases
In Samut Prakan, the surge in cases led Ratwinit Bangkaeo School in Bang Phli district to temporarily shift to online classes from May 26 to 28.

From January 1 to May 26, Thailand has recorded:

While the number of deaths remains relatively low, the recent spike in COVID-19 cases highlights the need for continued public health vigilance, especially in high-density areas like Bangkok.
Authorities are urging people to follow preventive measures, consider vaccination, and seek timely medical care to manage symptoms early. The government is closely monitoring the situation and may take further steps to curb the spread if the upward trend continues.
