The Nautical Institute (Singapore Branch) will host its annual conference on Wednesday, 21 August 2024, at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Singapore. Building on the success of last year’s event, the conference promises to gather maritime professionals from the region, with Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), as the esteemed Guest of Honour. The focus will be on ‘Charting a Greener World – Dealing with Sustainability, Emergency Preparedness, and Seafarer Wellbeing.’

Managing the Green Wave

This segment will address the crew risks associated with renewable energy and autonomous shipping, reflecting the industry’s move towards greener technologies. Discussions will highlight the challenges and opportunities posed by the shift to sustainable practices.

Emergency Preparedness

Focusing on recent high-profile incidents and regulatory changes, this session will explore challenges related to alternative fuels, EV shipments, hazardous cargoes, and liability issues. The goal is to enhance emergency preparedness and ensure safety in the maritime industry.

The Changing World

This topic will cover issues affecting seafarers, such as involuntary crew contract extensions, treatment during incidents, and seafarers’ rights and welfare. Emphasis will be placed on mental wellness and fostering a diverse, skilled future crew amidst rising global attention.
