The Nautical Institute Unveils Impressive Speakers For Annual Conference

The Nautical Institute Singapore Branch has unveiled an illustrious roster of speakers for its fifth annual conference, scheduled for 27 October 2023 at M Hotel Singapore. The event, which is expected to attract nearly 200 maritime professionals and industry leaders, will explore the theme “Seafaring in the modern, and everchanging millennium.

High-Profile Inauguration

The conference will be inaugurated by Mr. Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), who is also the Guest of Honour. Following the welcome speech, keynote addresses will be delivered by John Martin, Managing Director of Gard Singapore, and Capt. W.N.S.K.A.M. Wijayakulathilaka (Nish), Global Vice President of The Nautical Institute.

Panel Discussions

The conference will feature three comprehensive panel discussions, each moderated and populated by experts in the field. The panels will delve into critical issues such as sustainability, seafarer certification, and navigation technology.

Session 1: Sustainability: Fuelling The Future

  • [Moderator] Capt Saunak Rai, General Manager, FueLNG
  • Panelists include experts from The Nautical Institute, Swire Bulk, MC Shipping, Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation, and Bureau Veritas Marine (Singapore).

Session 2

Seafarers: Going Beyond Certification

  • Capt. Hari Subramaniam, Regional Head – Business Relations and Medisea, Shipowners Club
  • Panelists include representatives from Mission to Seafarers and Big Yellow Fish, with additional speakers to be confirmed.

Session 3: Navigation: Charting a Course Towards an Autonomous Bridge

  • Capt. Kunal Nakra, Deputy Director, Transport Safety Investigation Bureau, MOT Singapore
  • Panelists include experts from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, CMA CGM Group, Singapore Maritime Academy, and Anglo-Eastern Maritime Services.

Speaking Slots

In addition to the panel discussions, speaking slots will be filled by SAFETY4SEA and Mission to Seafarers Singapore, among others.
