In a groundbreaking move, Saudi Arabia’s Oil Park Development Company (OPDC), a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has revealed an extensive master plan for THE RIG – an adventure tourism project inspired by offshore oil platforms. Initially spanning 150,000 square meters, this extreme adventure hub has now doubled in size to over 300,000 square meters, promising to reshape the water sports and tourism landscape in the Arabian Gulf. The master plan is designed to honor the nation’s rich oil and gas heritage while providing an unparalleled experience for domestic, regional, and international visitors.
THE RIG’s Allure: A Fusion of Adventure and Luxury
THE RIG, positioned 40 km off the coastline near Al Juraid Island and the Berri oil field, aims to attract more than 900,000 annual visitors by 2032. Positioned as an “entirely new playground of adventure,” the project emphasizes not only extreme sports and exploration but also appeals to those seeking balanced holidays and relaxation. Boasting a gross floor area of 300,000 square meters, the rig-style adventure hub will offer a diverse range of hospitality, leisure, entertainment, and accommodation options. The project includes three hotels with 800 rooms, 11 restaurants, an extreme sports and adventure park, a world-class marina, and helipads, ensuring a comprehensive and captivating experience for visitors.
