Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas is set to launch as the world’s largest cruise ship in early 2024, measuring 365 metres long and weighing approximately 250,800 tons. The mammoth vessel has completed construction in Finland and has entered open waters for sea trials.

Key Features

The gargantuan cruise can carry 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members. There’s a performance venue called the AquaDome and a “chill island” pool deck, which features a swim-up bar.

The Icon of the Seas boasts eight different neighbourhoods, which collectively house more than 40 dining, bar and nightlife locales, as well as 20 total decks.

Launch and Debut

According to Royal Caribbean, the cruise completed its first sea trials this month in Turku, Finland, where more than 450 specialists conducted tests on the ship’s mechanics over the course of four days.

The ship will need to go through a second round of sea trials later this year, prior to its scheduled debut in Miami in January 2024.
