  • This switchover is expected to result in an annual reduction of approximately 2,000 tons of CO2.
  • An NYK affiliated company will be able to provide support to tenant companies that wish to report such to various international indices, among others.
  • The NYK Group will continue to view climate change as one of its key management issues and will accelerate its efforts to decarbonize its operations in order to realize a sustainable society.

At NYK’s headquarters at the Yusen Building, nearly all of the electricity was converted to renewable energy sources as reported by NYK.

Renewable energy

This switchover is estimated to result in a CO2 reduction of about 2,000 tonnes per year.

The renewable energy power to be introduced will include FIT non-fossil certificates bought by Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Incorporated as well as non-FIT non-fossil certificates* allocated for renewable energy.

Furthermore, because the Yusen Building will be powered entirely by renewable energy, Yusen Real Estate Corporation (Company name changed to Japan Post Properties Co., Ltd. on April 1, 2022. ), an NYK affiliated company, will be able to assist tenant companies in reporting to various international indices, among other things.

Sustainable society

NYK has been working hard to adopt renewable energy sources, and its Yokohama branch, NYK Maritime Museum, NYK Hikawamaru, and the Port of Yokohama Daikoku C-3 Terminal are already using renewable energy-derived electricity.

In order to achieve a sustainable society, the NYK Group will continue to approach climate change as one of its main management issues and will intensify its efforts to decarbonize its activities.

SBT compliance and reporting to CDP, an international environmental non-profit organisation, can also be done with certificates.
