Three Missing After Collision Off China

On Wednesday, 27th March, the chinese cargo ship ‘Chen Chang 332’ collided with the Panamanian car carrier ‘Morning Cherry’ near Guangzhou in the Pearl Rivery estuary fairway. Three people went missing after the incident, leaving many in jeopardy, says a report.

What happened?

The ‘Morning Cherry’ was underway with 2,201 cars from Guangzhou to Korea, when it collided with the ‘Chen Chang 332’, which was heading to Dongguan, loaded with 3500 tons of sand.

The latter suffered a major breach as a result of the collision which made it sink.

Missing Crew Members

All of the 12 crew onboard abandoned the vessel, but SAR authorities rescued nine of them, while the three remain went missing. The search and rescue operation, lead by Guangzhou Maritime Safety Administration, is still in progress.

Current Position

Latest AIS data shows that the damaged car carrier is anchored near the collision scene.
