Timber Shift Causes Cargo Vessel to Tilt at Russian Port

10

On January 16, a Russian-flagged cargo vessel experienced a severe starboard tilt while docked at Plastun Port, Russia, reports Maritime Bell.

Severe starboard tilt

At approximately 2:47 PM local time, timber cargo stacked on the vessel’s deck began sliding to the starboard side, eventually spilling into the water.

The ship listed heavily as a result, but stability was restored after most of the timber fell overboard, with some remaining precariously hanging over the side.

Concerned about a potential capsize, some crew members evacuated to the quay. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
