Norwegian manufacturer TMC Compressors continues to expand its footprint in LNG shipping with a new contract to supply compressed air systems for a dozen 174,000 cbm LNG carriers.
Strategic Partnership with Hanwha Ocean
South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean has selected TMC Compressors (TMC) to provide the marine compressed air systems for 12 new LNG carriers, each with a storage capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. While the name of the LNG shipping major behind the order remains undisclosed, the project marks another significant milestone in the long-standing collaboration between TMC and Hanwha.
“This is a large contract with an impressive shipbuilder that we have collaborated with on hundreds of similar 174k vessels over the past few decades,” said Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s Director of Sales and Business Development.
Robust and Crew-Friendly Air Systems
Each vessel will be fitted with a complete marine compressed air system consisting of control and service air compressors. TMC emphasizes that their equipment is specifically designed for ease of maintenance at sea, allowing vessel crews to service the systems themselves without needing port calls or external technicians.
“It is too expensive for a vessel to go to port or send a technician offshore when you need to maintain a compressor,” Tanum added. “That is why we design them with ease of maintenance in mind — in addition to energy efficiency, of course.”
Continued Growth in LNG Carrier Projects
Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, TMC is renowned for supplying energy-efficient and low-maintenance air systems tailored for marine and offshore environments. Although the contract value was not disclosed, this latest order follows recent wins for TMC to supply:
-
15 LNG carriers under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries
-
17 LNG carriers being built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries
These back-to-back contract awards reinforce TMC’s status as a trusted partner for compressed air solutions in the global LNG carrier market.
