TMC has landed a contract to supply a large-capacity marine compressed air system for the FPSO Gato do Mato. This system will feature compressors that provide both control and service air on board, although the company hasn’t revealed the contract’s value, reports TMC.

Focusing on Reliability and Easy Maintenance

Situated about 200 kilometres offshore, the FPSO demands equipment that is not only highly reliable but also requires minimal maintenance.

“We have designed our compressors so that the offshore crew can easily maintain them without the need to bring on board an external service technician. An enabler of this approach is to use compressors that have been developed solely for marine and offshore use, which means that they have been specially designed for a marine operating environment, such as on board an FPSO that is located far from shore,” says Hans-Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.

Established Partnership with MODEC

TMC has a long-standing relationship with MODEC, having supplied similar systems for several of its FPSOs over the years.

“We have delivered similar marine compressed air systems to multiple MODEC FPSOs in the past. We know what MODEC expects, and they know what they get from us. It is a trust-based relationship that has evolved over several decades,” adds Hans-Petter Tanum.

Project Details and Capacity

Once it’s up and running, the FPSO Gato do Mato is expected to produce up to 120,000 barrels of oil per day and will be anchored at a depth of around 2,000 meters. The Orca Project, which includes the FPSO Gato do Mato, is a collaborative effort between Shell (50%, operator), Ecopetrol (30%), and TotalEnergies (20%), with PPSA managing the Production Sharing Contract.
