  • Crowley’s fourth Avance Class vessel, Torogoz, has entered service, operating between the U.S. and Central America.
  • Powered by lower-emission LNG, the ship supports faster, frequent shipping with reduced environmental impact.
  • Torogoz joins sister ships Tiscapa, Quetzal, and Copán, completing the Avance Class fleet.
  • Named after El Salvador’s national bird, the vessel reflects the region’s cultural heritage and Crowley’s 60+ years of service.

Crowley’s newest Avance Class vessel, Torogoz, has officially entered commercial service, setting sail from Port Everglades, Florida, to serve trade routes across Central America. This marks the final step in deploying the company’s four-vessel Avance Class containership fleet, each designed to transport a mix of refrigerated and dry cargo between the U.S. and key markets in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, according to Crowley.

Avance Class Fleet Expansion with LNG-Powered Torogoz

The Torogoz, like its Avance Class sister ships, operates on lower-emission liquefied natural gas (LNG), supporting Crowley’s efforts to deliver faster and more frequent ocean services while minimizing environmental impacts both at sea and in port. According to Claudia Kattan-Jordan, Vice President of Crowley Logistics for Central America, Panama, and Mexico, the vessel’s combination of dry and refrigerated cargo capacity enables high-speed, dependable service that meets the diverse needs of customers in the region.

Following the introduction of Tiscapa, Quetzal, and Copán, the Torogoz completes the company’s four-vessel Avance Class fleet. Each vessel is named to reflect the cultural heritage of Central America, where Crowley has maintained shipping and logistics operations for more than six decades. The Torogoz’s name honors El Salvador’s national bird—the turquoise-browed motmot—a species celebrated since ancient Mayan times for its vibrant beauty and deep cultural symbolism.
