- Towngas and CIMC ENRIC have formed a strategic partnership to advance green methanol and hydrogen energy development in Hong Kong.
- The collaboration covers technical cooperation, engineering services, and carbon trading compliance for green methanol.
- Towngas will leverage its certified large-scale green methanol production capacity, while CIMC ENRIC contributes clean energy and maritime expertise.
- Hydrogen projects will focus on extraction, storage, and expanded applications in transportation and EV charging infrastructure.
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and CIMC ENRIC Holdings Limited have entered a strategic partnership to drive the development of green methanol and hydrogen energy, supporting Hong Kong’s transition toward cleaner energy solutions. The agreement covers technical collaboration, engineering services, industry standards, and compliance in carbon trading for green methanol, says the report published by Towngas.
Towngas, the first Chinese company to secure both ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS certifications for large-scale green methanol production, will leverage its established supply chain network, while CIMC ENRIC will bring its expertise in clean energy and maritime industries to promote new technological applications.
In a separate agreement, both companies will advance hydrogen energy projects, encompassing extraction, purification, storage, and utilisation. Currently, hydrogen accounts for about half of Towngas’s gas supply in Hong Kong, distributed through a 3,700-kilometre underground pipeline network. The partnership aims to enhance hydrogen technologies and expand applications across transportation, electric vehicle charging, and other sectors, aligning with China’s “30-60” dual carbon goals and the Hong Kong SAR Government’s 2050 carbon neutrality target.
