- Ensuring Safe and Efficient Tank Cleaning with Milbros UV Graphs.
- Milbros Launches Digital Solution to Reduce Costs and Time in Chemical Tanker Cleaning
- Streamlined Tanker Inspection Process with Milbros UV Graphs.
On November 6, 2024, Boston, MA – Milbros, a solution by Veson Nautical and the industry leader for products database for liquid bulk, announced Milbros UV Graphs. This innovative product is poised to change the centuries-old traditional method of tank cleaning onboard ships inventories globally, reports Veson.
Milbros UV Graphs
Milbros UV Graphs are designed to be used in conjunction with a spectrophotometer, equipment that is currently being fitted to vessels. A spectrophotometer allows residue or wash water samples taken from tanks to be analyzed by measuring absorbance at specific wavelengths—certainly including those with UV peaks. With over 250 unique UV graphs produced for specific chemicals and further developments planned, Milbros enables its clients to download the right chart and make pinpoint-accurate on-site cleanliness assessments.
Precision in Tank Contaminant Detection
Information gathered by measuring the absorbance of UV light at specific wavelengths in Milbros UV Graphs reveals the presence of contaminants in a tank. A value less than 100 ppm indicates a clean tank, while high values indicate the presence of some residual contaminants. Cleaning teams can assess the amount of residual contaminants to take appropriate measures for further cleaning, ensuring efficient cleaning.
Addressing Industry Challenges
“Maritime shipping companies are facing increased pressure to limit their time at port and maximize cost savings,” Capt. Caspar Lavall, Principal Product Manager at Milbros says. “Milbros UV Graphs offers charterers, shipowners, and surveyors a safer, more efficient approach which maintains compliance while growing their bottom line.”
Enhancing Safety and Reducing Tank Entries
There is less entry of crews into confined tank spaces to sample using Milbros UV Graphs there, as in the past, they were exposed to harmful chemicals by the sampling process. Using the UV Graphs allows most inspections to be carried out without crew entry, which increases safety and makes it easier to clean the tanks.
Streamlining Approval Processes for Tanker Inspection
Milbros UV Graphs also offer certification for those surveyors who increasingly accept these graphs as proof of tanker cleanliness. Electronic delivery of inspection results is speeding the approval process, further reducing turnaround time for vessels in port.
A Vital Tool for Competitive Advantage
“The chemical tanker sector is facing new and complex challenges and having the right digital tools in place to successfully manage the risks that come with preparing vessels for volatile cargoes is vital,” Capt. Lavall concludes. “Milbros UV Graphs is a digital solution that can help establish a competitive advantage in the market.”
