Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has announced the successful delivery of its newest bulk carrier, the OCEAN ARIEL, the first vessel built under the advanced TESS42 design. Constructed at the company’s Tsuneishi Factory, the vessel marks a step forward in both efficiency and versatility within the bulk carrier segment.

Enhanced Design and Capacity

The TESS42 model has been developed as an upgrade to the widely used TESS38. While maintaining the same overall length, the new design significantly increases the deadweight capacity to around 42,200 metric tons. This expansion allows operators to handle larger cargo volumes without compromising on size. Furthermore, Tsuneishi’s proprietary technology enhances fuel efficiency, supporting sustainable and cost-effective shipping operations.

Cargo Versatility and Specifications

The OCEAN ARIEL has been engineered for flexible cargo operations, making it suitable for a wide range of commodities, including iron ore, coal, grains, lumber, sulfur, and hot coils. Its semi-box-type cargo holds are especially designed to improve the transportation of steel products. The vessel measures approximately 180 meters in length, with a moulded breadth of 32.2 meters, a depth of 15.4 meters, and a gross tonnage of about 26,700.

The delivery of the OCEAN ARIEL highlights Tsuneishi Shipbuilding’s commitment to advancing vessel efficiency and operational flexibility. With the TESS42 design, the company strengthens its position in the global shipbuilding industry, offering ships that balance higher cargo capacity with improved fuel performance.
