Two ships collided in the Yangtze River Estuary, one ship sank on Dec 14, reports China News.

What happened?

On the night of December 13, two ships collided in the waters of the North Passage Channel of the Yangtze River Estuary. 

At 23:35 on December 13, 2020, a container ship “OCEANA” collided with the container ship “Xinqisheng 69” near the light buoy D15 of the North Channel Channel of the Yangtze River Estuary. Due to a main engine failure, “Xinqisheng” The 69″ sank in water. 

“Xinqisheng 69” is 165 meters long, 23 meters wide, has a draft of 8.5 meters, and is loaded with 650 containers. A total of 16 Chinese crew members were on board.

Rescue operations

After the incident, the East China Sea Rescue Bureau dispatched professional rescue ships “Donghai Rescue 101, 102” to the scene for search and rescue.

According to reports so far, 10 people have been rescued, 1 person was killed. On 14th, the East China Sea First Rescue Flying Team helicopters “B-7356 and B-7357” successively dispatched from Gaodong Airport to search. As of now, 5 people are still missing.
