Two general cargo ships were troubled with a nearly 3 hours interval in Bosphorus, early in the morning Oct 3, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What is the reason?

Steering failure

VARNAVA suffered steering failure and started to drift in the Beykoz area at around 0040 UTC Oct 3.

She was towed by tugs to Byyukdere anchorage, Bosphorus. As of 0630 UTC Oct 4, she remained at anchor. The ship was transiting Bosphorus in the northern direction.

Engine failure

NEW LEO suffered reportedly an engine failure, at around 0400 UTC Oct 3, also in the Beykoz area, and started to drift.

The ship dropped anchor to prevent contact with the embankment.  Tug or tugs responded, the ship completed southbound transit and was anchored off Ahirkapi, resumed sailing in the evening Oct 3.
