U-Ming, SWS, and Jotun have signed a commercial agreement for the ground-breaking Jotun Hull Skating Solutions (HSS) for U-Ming’s 190 000 DWT dual-fuel bulk carrier new-building project at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard (SWS) in Shanghai, China. The agreement was signed during a signing ceremony on Teams, says an article published in Dry Bulk.
U-M’s President affirms
“U-Ming is dedicated to being the front runner of sustainable marine shipping offerings and our clients’ first preference in dry bulk shipping.
As a part of our decarbonization strategy, we had been concerned in lots of projects using significant adjustments to lessen emissions.
The latest IMO necessities on EEXI and CII are a possibility to distinguish ourselves via way of means of providing our clients rather green vessels with considerably decreased working gasoline fees and greenhouse fuel line emissions.
Collaboration with stakeholders is the important thing to boost up maritime decarbonization and the Hull Skating Solutions presented via way of means of Jotun virtually helps and complements our inexperienced ambitions,” stated Mr. C.K. Ong, President of U-Ming
It’s Attributes
The Hull Skater, an underwater robotic device with hull inspection and cleaning capabilities, and SeaQuantum Skate, a specially developed antifouling coating, are combined in Jotun’s HSS.
To support the long-term contract with mining giant Anglo American, the solution will be installed on one of U-four Ming’s LNG dual-fuel Tier III 190 000 DWT bulk carriers being built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS).
Modern shipbuilding
“SWS is honored to be the first shipyard in China to offer Jotun’s HSS to our customers,” says the company. “It’s a groundbreaking technology that fits right in with SWS’s Green Capesize Bulk Carrier Program.
This advancement complements our green and modern shipbuilding strategy and aligns with our commitment to long-term development and environmental protection,” said SWS Vice General Manager Zhang Qi Peng.
A Positive Response
“I am very happy with the positive response from U-Ming and SWS to adopt Jotun’s HSS at the new building stage.
They are shaping the future of a sustainable shipping industry”, stated Mr. Morten Sten Johansen, Regional Marine Director, North East Asia for Jotun.
With HSS we can deliver the promise of an ‘always clean hull’ from day one, helping our customers to maximize the benefits of lower fuel costs, full flexibility in operations, and effective biofouling management.
Globalization
Bulk carriers have sailing patterns that are highly dependent on market forces.
Shifts in global commodity markets can change the expected idling time, geographical routes, and port calls, exposing the vessel to high risks of biofouling that coatings alone may not be sufficient to address.
