U.S. Begins Health Screenings for Travelers from Rwanda

The U.S. Government has started screening air travelers who have been in the Republic of Rwanda in the last 21 days. This measure is linked to the ongoing Marburg virus outbreak, which has resulted in 15 fatalities, reports Precision Vax LLC.

Screenings Implemented Due to the Marburg Outbreak

Health screenings are being conducted as a precautionary measure following the Marburg virus outbreak in Rwanda. “This action is related to the recent Marburg virus outbreak in which 15 people have died.”

Virgin Atlantic Airways confirmed that screenings began on October 16, 2024, and are taking place at Washington Dulles, Chicago O’Hare, and New York JFK airports. Travelers who have recently visited Rwanda will be rerouted to one of these airports for mandatory health checks.

Travelers Rerouted for Mandatory Screenings

Any Virgin Atlantic customer who has visited Rwanda will be redirected to these specific U.S. airports for health screenings before continuing their journey.

“This means any customer who has recently visited Rwanda will be rerouted through one of these airports to facilitate these mandatory screenings.”

Virgin Atlantic’s Guidance for Affected Customers

Virgin Atlantic is advising customers who have traveled to Rwanda and booked directly with the airline to contact them for further assistance.

“If you have booked directly with Virgin Atlantic and have been to Rwanda, don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your options.”

Marburg Virus Vaccine in Clinical Trials

As of October 19, 2024, there are no U.S. FDA-approved vaccines for the Marburg virus, although vaccine candidates are being evaluated in various clinical trials.
