UAE Maritime Week is set to take place from May 5-9, 2025, under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. The event’s steering committee is chaired by H.E. Eng. Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs, UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. This group will play a vital role in shaping the overall themes and initiatives of the week, promoting its benefits to the wider community, and positioning the event as a knowledge hub for the sector.

Significance of UAE Maritime Industry

The UAE’s maritime industry is valued at over AED 129 billion, making it a significant contributor to the national economy. The steering committee will work as ambassadors for the event, supporting its initiatives and encouraging regional and local leaders to participate. The flagship conference and exhibition of UAE Maritime Week, Seatrade Maritime Logistics Middle East, drew nearly 8,000 attendees from 94 countries in its most recent iteration, highlighting the event’s growing influence and importance.

Leadership Insights

H.E. Eng. Hessa Al Malek emphasized the UAE’s rise as a leading maritime hub, attributing it to state-of-the-art infrastructure, advanced digital solutions, and a strategic location. According to Al Malek, the UAE’s maritime companies have played a crucial role in the country’s success, demonstrating remarkable resilience and adaptability.

Dr. Aysha AlBusmait, IMO Goodwill Ambassador to the UAE, highlighted the importance of UAE Maritime Week in addressing industry needs and fostering growth. Chris Morley, Group Director of Seatrade Maritime, praised the event’s evolution and impact on the regional shipping sector. Morley believes the steering committee will be a driving force behind action and results from the various initiatives during the week.
