- Norwegian shipping company UECC has taken delivery of Blue Heritage, a new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), from Chinese shipyard CIMC Raffles.
- The vessel, a sister ship to Blue Aspire, is designed to support sustainable operations with dual-fuel engines capable of running on LNG and potential for future biomethane conversion.
- With a length of 200 meters and a capacity of 7,000 CEUs across 12 vehicle decks, the ship is equipped for versatile cargo handling, including high and heavy (H&H) cargo.
- Blue Heritage will operate on a Mediterranean-Northern Europe route, servicing ports in Turkey, Germany, and Belgium every 4.5 days.
According to Baird maritime, UECC’s latest addition, Blue Heritage, follows the delivery of its sister vessel, Blue Aspire, in December 2024. Both ships represent a significant step in UECC’s commitment to advancing green shipping technologies.
The 200-meter-long vessel boasts a capacity of 7,000 CEUs distributed across 12 vehicle decks, four of which are hoistable to accommodate high and heavy cargo. Its dual-fuel engine technology primarily utilizes LNG, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with provisions to retrofit for biomethane fuel, offering even greater emission reductions in the future.
Operational Deployment
Blue Heritage and Blue Aspire will join four other UECC vessels on a well-established trade route between the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. This route includes stops at key ports such as Yenikoy and Autoport in Turkey, Cuxhaven in Germany, and Zeebrugge in Belgium. The service cycle for these vessels is designed to complete every 4.5 days, ensuring efficient and timely cargo delivery.
Future Sustainability Goals
UECC’s investment in ships like Blue Heritage underscores the company’s strategy to integrate cleaner technologies into its fleet. By incorporating biomethane-ready propulsion systems, UECC is aligning with long-term decarbonization targets, enhancing operational sustainability while maintaining service reliability.
