The UK P&I Club has published what it believes to be the most comprehensive account to date of the situation regarding crew changes at different ports across the world.
Global Crew Change Advice
Entitled ‘Global Crew Change Advice,’ the 130-page document is based on information compiled from 200 of its correspondents worldwide, who were asked to supply answers to four basic questions about ports in their regions as follows:
- Are routine crew changes permitted in your port?
- If crew changes are allowed, are there any restrictions in doing so (e.g. mandatory Covid-19 tests or quarantine requirements)?
- Are crew members who are either sick or injured permitted to be disembarked in your port?
- If crew members are allowed to disembark, are there any restrictions in doing so (e.g. mandatory Covid-19 tests or quarantine requirements)?
Dealing with crew change crisis
“Constantly shifting global and regional restrictions during the pandemic can play havoc with logistics and planning,” commented Andrew Taylor, UK P&I Club chief executive.
He added, “Our Global Crew Change Advice manual is an important document for Members and we believe this is the most comprehensive A-Z index of how ports around the world deal with crew changes in the current pandemic environment.”
“The document will be updated regularly when the situation changes,” Taylor added. “The Club hopes Members will find it invaluable when liaising with charterers and local agents for planning crew changes,” he concluded.
