The United Kingdom has intensified its efforts to curb Russian energy exports by sanctioning China’s Beihai LNG terminal, a key recipient of Russian liquefied natural gas. This move is part of a broader package targeting Russian oil giants, shipping assets, and international enablers of Moscow’s energy trade. The latest measures underscore Western commitment to pressuring Russia amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, according to the report published by gCaptain.
UK authorities recently announced 90 new sanctions targeting Russia’s energy sector and its international partners, including Rosneft, Lukoil, several Chinese oil terminals, and Indian refiner Nayara Energy Limited. The Beihai LNG terminal, operated by state-owned PipeChina, has become a focal point for Russian LNG shipments after receiving the first Arctic LNG 2 cargo in August 2025, followed by multiple subsequent deliveries. These sanctions also cover specialized LNG tankers facilitating Russian exports. By freezing assets and restricting key energy and technology channels, the UK aims to disrupt the funding that supports Russia’s war efforts and limit the Kremlin’s ability to expand its LNG industry, even as Arctic LNG 2 continues to operate amid international restrictions.
