Three people were killed and at least 16 injured in a major Ukrainian drone attack on southern Russia overnight on 25 November, with residential buildings damaged in the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk and the cities of Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar, reports Reuters.
Ukraine drone strike kills 3 injures 16 in southern Russia
Russian authorities said the barrage struck residential and industrial districts in the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk and the cities of Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar. According to Reuters, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that air defenses intercepted 249 drones, including 116 over the Black Sea and 92 over Krasnodar and Rostov, but several managed to penetrate defenses and cause significant damage.
Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed that a paint shop, a warehouse, four apartment buildings, and 12 houses were hit, resulting in the three fatalities and numerous injuries. Emergency crews continued operations throughout the morning.
In Novorossiysk, unverified videos circulating on Telegram appeared to show a drone flying directly into a large residential building before exploding in a fireball. The city is home to one of Russia’s most important oil export terminals, adding strategic significance to the strike.
Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev described the assault as “one of the longest major attacks by the Kyiv regime,” noting additional damage in the coastal town of Tuapse, another location near an oil export hub, Reuters reports.
The attacks came hours before Ukrainian officials reported a Russian strike on Kyiv, which set fires in at least two residential buildings and killed one person. Fire crews worked across the capital to contain the damage.
As both countries target each other’s infrastructure and urban centers with increasing frequency, the overnight barrage highlights a further escalation in the conflict.
