Paving the Way for Zero-Emission Shipping
Green corridors are zero-emissions maritime routes connecting two or more ports, playing a crucial role in driving vessel and shoreside technology development as part of the global energy transition. However, these initiatives come with significant challenges, requiring substantial investments in infrastructure, including shore power charging systems.
UK’s First Green Corridor
The UK’s maiden green corridor project will connect the ports of Dover, Calais, and Dunkirk, enabling low-emission ferry routes. UK SHORE’s funding will be available to UK-registered organizations for the delivery of feasibility studies, with partner countries such as the Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark offering match-funding or in-kind contributions to support collaboration and information sharing.

The UK Chamber of Shipping highlighted the importance of dedicated infrastructure along the green corridors, ensuring vessel access to low- and zero-emission fuels and shoreside power facilities. Such measures are critical components of successful feasibility studies.
