Uniper Energy DMCC Loads Largest-Ever LSFO Cargo in Fujairah

Uniper Energy DMCC, has loaded in Fujairah the largest-ever cargo of Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (LSFO) for delivery to Asian customers, reports IndraStra.

LSFO made available for Asian customers

Uniper Energy DMCC, which supports 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, has loaded the largest-ever cargo in Fujairah with (LSFO) for delivery to Asian customers ahead of the implementation of the IMO 2020.

The regulation compels all shipowners to reduce the Sulfur content of their bunker fuel.

Fujairah at the heart of new energy corridor

As the UAE’s only emirate on the Arabian Sea coast, Fujairah is at the heart of the new energy corridor opening up East of Suez to Asia.

The emirate is already established as a world-scale storage and bunkering center alongside Rotterdam and Singapore and is set to benefit in the next few years from companies’ plans to expand crude and petroleum product facilities to avail of the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure on offer.

Busy month of LSFO shipments

The largest-ever loading of low sulfur fuel oil on a vessel took place in Fujairah between May 1-4 and was 154,411 Metric tonnes, without any issue stoppage, quantity or quality loss, and the tanker is now en route to Singapore.

Shortly after they commenced loading 80,000 Metric tonnes to go to Europe, making it a busy month for low sulfur fuel oil shipments.

Supply of cleaner fuels

Uniper Energy’s crude units annually produce more than 3 million tons of Ultra Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (ULSFO) for the marine market. These cleaner fuels make a significant contribution to enhancing air quality, playing a crucial role in exceeding the IMO targets to limit sulfur in ships fuels to 0.5%, from today’s 3.5%, from the 1 January 2020.

Uniper Energy DMCC supplies their clean fuels from their 3m barrels of storage into three of world’s largest bunkering hubs – Fujairah, Europe’s ARA and Singapore.

The company started in Dubai in 2015, with the first cargo in March 2017. It now trades with more than 200 counterparties; both private and state-owned entities, including national oil companies (NOCs).
