Embarking on a Mediterranean voyage, one of the world’s latest cruise ships is currently navigating through a loop that encompasses Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Naples, Messina, and Valletta, as reported by Forbes

LNG cruise

The MSC World Europa cruise ship represents a glimpse into the future of the industry with its use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as fuel, significantly reducing emissions compared to standard marine fuels. It achieves a 99% reduction in sulphur oxide (SOx) emissions, up to 85% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, and a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions. Although cruise fares on the World Europa are approximately 10-15% higher than other MSC ships on similar Mediterranean itineraries, the question of whether it is worth it is subjective and open to individual judgment.

Just how big is the MSC World Europa?

The MSC World Europa is an enormous cruise ship, ranking among the world’s top ten in terms of size, with a passenger capacity of 6,762 spread across 2,626 staterooms. When considering the more than 2,000 crew members onboard, the ship becomes a floating city accommodating nearly 9,000 people at full capacity. Interestingly, the World Europa initially served as an artificial city during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar before joining the MSC cruise ship fleet in early 2023.

World Promenade

The MSC World Europa features a unique and striking design element called the World Promenade. Unlike traditional ship promenades that encircle the exterior, this 341-foot-long promenade is placed in the middle of the ship, with an aft terrace. It offers various amenities, including a premium coffee shop, seafood restaurant, ice-cream parlour, cigar bar, and bar service at outdoor tables. This design choice not only creates a captivating event space but also allows for more balcony cabins with a “promenade view.” Additionally, a notable feature is a dry slide that spirals down 11 decks. The World Promenade serves as a popular venue for pre and post-dinner activities and shows, with a captivating light show held twice nightly accompanied by music, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
