Updated DP Certificate Revalidation Requirements

To ensure DP operators (DPOs) and DP Vessel Maintainers (DPVMs) maintain high standards in the dynamic positioning (DP) industry, the revalidation process for DP certification has undergone significant changes starting January 2024. The new guidelines now emphasize Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and verified experience.

Revalidation Scenarios

If 150 DP Days Are Completed in the Last 5 Years

  • Option 1: Complete CPD modules provided by accredited suppliers (currently 7 listed on the NI Alexis platform).
  • Option 2: Enroll in the NI DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course if not pursuing CPD modules.
  • Common Requirement: Both options require passing a theoretical online exam consisting of:
    • 30 questions
    • Time limit: 1 hour
    • Passing mark: 70%

If Less Than 150 DP Days Are Completed but At Least 30 in the Last 5 Years

  • Mandatory Course: NI DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course (5 days).
  • Course Structure:
    • Practical Training: Hands-on DP operation scenarios.
    • Theoretical Learning: Key DP concepts and updates.
  • Assessment:
    • Theoretical online exam (NI exam, same as above).
    • Practical assessment of DP skills.

If Less Than 30 DP Days Are Completed in the Last 5 Years

  • Mandatory Course: NI DP Revalidation Course (5 days).
  • Course Structure:
    • Combination of practical and theoretical sessions.
    • Focused on refreshing DP skills and knowledge.
  • Assessment:
    • Theoretical online exam (NI exam, same as above).
    • Practical assessment of DP competencies.
