A U.S. aircraft carrier strike group has departed the Red Sea for Europe, despite the Houthi rebel group in Yemen announcing a pause in attacks on vessels in the region, reports Bloomberg.

Normalcy In Red Sea

The USS Harry S. Truman and its embarked fighter jets have arrived in Greece after completing two months of combat operations in the Red Sea, according to a U.S. Navy statement released on February 6th.

This development comes as the shipping industry awaits signs of a return to normalcy in Red Sea vessel traffic after more than a year of disruptions.

Despite a handful of U.S. and UK ships having transited the waterway since the Houthis announced a pause in their attacks in January, the majority of vessels continue to opt for the longer route around Africa. The Houthis declared a partial halt to their attacks in response to a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Industry figures have expressed caution regarding a swift return to normal operations in the area.
