13th October marked the 240th birthday of US Navy
- From everyday small feats to undeniably heroic efforts, the accomplishments and achievements of America’s Navy are vast and significant.
- This same day in 1775 the Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and voted to outfit two sailing vessels –
- the Andrew Doria and
- the Cabot,
- Since its birth, the Navy has been involved with more than ten major wars and countless battles.
- The Navy takes extra efforts to bring security, democracy and prosperity to the American people and to the international community.
- The American navy has expanded till date and today, it’s a fleet of
- 271 deployable ships
- Over 3,700 operational aircraft
- Over 328,000 active duty sailors
- Over 110,000 reserve sailors
- Nearly 200,000 civilian employees
- The Navy owns 36,000 acres and more than 6,750 buildings in the area.
- The Hampton Roads is home to approximately 108,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel.
