The latest Valenciaport Statistical Bulletin reveals an exceptional increase in container traffic with Angola, recording a remarkable +2,200.88% growth in tonnage during January and February. Trade with Israel and Algeria also experienced significant expansion, rising by +44.41% and +18.71%, respectively.
China remains Valenciaport’s primary trading partner, with 129,724 TEUs exchanged between Valencian and Asian ports in the first two months of the year. This represents a +36.44% increase, while trade in tonnage with China reached 1,410,867 tonnes, marking a +29.43% rise.
Sustained Expansion in Exports and Container Traffic
Exports of full containers from Valenciaport continue on an upward trajectory, reflecting a +5.39% increase. The February bulletin highlights a +9.88% rise in full TEU traffic for the month, with unloaded containers showing an impressive +29.93% growth and transshipment activities increasing by +4.15% over January and February.
Overall, cargo throughput at Valenciaport terminals reached 12.51 million tonnes in the first two months of 2025, reflecting a +1.35% growth. Container traffic registered 863,894 TEUs, achieving an annual increase of +10.34%.
Sectoral Performance and Transport Trends
A sectoral analysis indicates substantial growth in multiple industries. The non-metallic minerals sector led the surge with a +28.08% increase, followed by chemical products at +12.17%, construction materials at +9.06%, and agri-foodstuffs at +2.35%.
Intermodal transport activity also witnessed moderate gains, with UTI (intermodal transport unit) traffic rising by +0.44% and TEU transport by rail growing by +4.53%. However, there was a decline in passenger traffic (-5.86%) and vehicle transport (-34.35%).
Valenciaport’s latest figures underscore its growing significance as a global trade hub, reinforcing its role in facilitating international commerce while sustaining positive growth in exports and container movements.
