- Last August, 6.3 million tonnes of goods passed through Valenciaport’s terminals: 2.56% more than in August 2023.
- In terms of containers, in the same month of this year, Valenciaport moved 468,059 TEUs (20-foot container); 18.92% more than last year.
- In August, an increase in exports was recorded, both in bulk and containerised goods, of 4.73% and 18.85% respectively.
- Despite this growth in August, the balance of the last twelve months still reflects a slight year-on-year fall of -0.65%.
The Port Authority of Valencia’s Statistical Bulletin for the month of August has reported an increase in Spanish exports from Valenciaport.
The type of goods that have led to this increase has been both containerised (18.85 per cent) and non-containerised and bulk (4.73 per cent).
August traffic shows an upturn in exports
The Bulletin shows a year-on-year growth of 6.76 per cent over the last 12 months in tonnage traffic and 11.58 per cent in containers.
Although goods in transit partly explain the growth of traffic in the Valencian docks, the increase in trade relations with the port’s main partners is a driving factor.
Valenciaport continues to have China, the US, Italy and Turkey as its main countries of reference for the exchange of goods. So far this year it has exchanged more than 16 million tonnes with them (5.29 with China; 4.63 with Italy; 3.63 with the US and 2.93 with Turkey).
The role of the distribution centre for import/export traffic and transhipments on a global level that the Valencian port is taking on has meant that exchanges with countries such as Greece and Saudi Arabia have increased by 61.77 per cent and 50.39 per cent, respectively.
Focusing on geographical areas, the Red Sea, the Baltic countries and the Mediterranean countries show the greatest growth in the first eight months of the year.
Between January and August, the volume of containers exchanged between the Valencian docks and the main ports of the Red Sea grew by 65.36 per cent; with the Baltic countries, by 59.71 per cent and with the Mediterranean countries, by 34.32 per cent.
In the first eight months of 2024, 53.9 million tonnes of goods have passed through the terminals managed by the Port Authority of Valencia, 5.67 per cent more than the previous year. Of these, 4.16 million tonnes were bulk cargo; 10.4 million were non-containerised general cargo and 39.4 million were containerised cargo.
