- Valenciaport handled nearly 493,500 containers in August 2025, an 8% increase compared to August 2024, with year-to-date traffic reaching 3.8 million TEUs (+4.75%).
- Vehicle movements rose by 12.28% in August, but cumulative volumes since January fell by almost 14%, while passenger traffic showed steady growth in regular lines but a decline in cruises.
- China, the United States, Algeria, and Italy remain Valenciaport’s top trading partners, driving significant growth in container and cargo volumes.
The Port Authority of Valencia (APV), which manages the ports of Valencia, Gandia, and Sagunto, reported solid traffic growth in August 2025. Import and export volumes exceeded 6.5 million tonnes during the month, representing a 2.5% increase compared to the same period last year. Since January, nearly 54 million tonnes have passed through these facilities (-0.56%), while year-on-year traffic has surpassed 80 million tonnes (+0.47%), highlighting the resilience of the port cluster despite fluctuations in global trade.
Container Traffic
Container movements remain the backbone of Valenciaport’s operations. In August alone, 493,455 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) were handled, an increase of 8.05% compared to August 2024. From January to August, the cumulative volume reached 3.8 million TEUs, reflecting a 4.75% rise. In year-on-year terms, Valenciaport handled 5.6 million containers, up 7.82%, underscoring the port’s strategic role in global shipping routes.
Vehicle Movements
The automotive trade also showed positive momentum in August, with 31,276 vehicles (+12.28%) loaded and unloaded at the Sagunto and Valencia terminals. However, the cumulative total for 2025 so far stood at 325,088 units, representing a decline of 13.97% compared to the previous year. This contrast points to a rebound in recent months but also highlights earlier slowdowns in the vehicle sector.
Passenger Traffic
Passenger movements demonstrated mixed trends. Regular ferry services transported 141,992 passengers in August (+0.69%), outpacing cruise activity, which registered 104,834 passengers (-18.61%). On a year-on-year basis, 834,974 passengers (+1.03%) traveled on regular lines to or from Valenciaport, while cruise passengers numbered 780,580, reflecting a decline of 6.20%. The figures highlight ongoing consolidation in the regular line segment, alongside a temporary contraction in cruise tourism.
Key International Markets
China continues to be Valenciaport’s leading trading partner, with 550,983 containers (+18.81%) and over 5.8 million tonnes of cargo (+12.46%) exchanged in 2025 to date. The United States also remains a key market, accounting for 263,192 containers (+6.02%) and more than 4 million tonnes (+10.21%). Algeria ranks third in container volumes with 212,581 TEUs, showing remarkable growth of 42.76%. In terms of cargo weight, Italy surpasses the U.S., recording more than 4.6 million tonnes (+1.30%). These figures demonstrate Valenciaport’s strong connectivity with global markets and its role as a hub for Mediterranean and transatlantic trade.
Valenciaport’s August 2025 performance reflects resilience and diversification across key traffic segments. With robust growth in container throughput, renewed momentum in vehicle handling, and stable passenger traffic on regular lines, the port continues to strengthen its international competitiveness. The growing trade with major partners such as China, the United States, Algeria, and Italy underscores the port’s importance as a gateway for global commerce in the Mediterranean.
