Wind Energy Construction AS, a Norwegian company with ties to Norwind Offshore AS, has contracted with VARD for its sixth vessel. This new Energy Construction Vessel (ECV) is designed specifically for the offshore wind and subsea markets, showcasing advanced technology and sustainable solutions aimed at enhancing renewable energy infrastructure.

VARD 3 11 Design and Features

The ECV is based on the VARD 3 11 design, tailored for offshore wind and subsea operations such as inspection, maintenance, and repair of pipes, as well as infrastructure construction. Key features include:

  • Motion-Compensated Gangway: The vessel will be the first of its kind built by VARD to include a permanently installed motion-compensated gangway, enabling efficient walk-to-work operations.
  • Advanced Crane Technology: A 150-ton movement-compensated offshore crane is being installed to expand capacities for the renewables market.
  • Flexibility and Maneuverability: The design emphasizes station-keeping, maneuverability, and sea-keeping capabilities, allowing for adaptable configurations depending on operational needs.

Technological and Sustainable Innovations

VARD is delivering the vessel as a total provider, integrating design, hull building, outfitting, and commissioning. The vessel incorporates Vard Electro’s SeaQ equipment, which includes:

  • SeaQ Power and Energy Storage: Features a 1MWh energy storage system and shore connection for green port stays.
  • SeaQ Bridge and Communication Systems: Fully integrated bridge systems with extensive communication networks and entertainment systems.
  • SeaQ Control System: Includes an innovative portable monitoring station for enhanced operational flexibility and accessibility.

VARD’s Leadership and Future Outlook

VARD continues to demonstrate its technological and industrial leadership in the offshore market with this new vessel. The collaboration with Wind Energy Construction AS highlights the commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and supporting the green transition. The vessel is being built at Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam and is scheduled for delivery in Q2 2027, featuring:

  • Specifications: Length of 111.5 meters, beam of 22.4 meters, and accommodation for 120 people.
  • Commitment to Innovation: VARD aims to meet evolving global needs through modern shipbuilding practices, creating vessels that contribute to sustainable development in the maritime industry.
