Sand carrier SHUNAN66 issued a distress signal at around 1800 Beijing time Oct 13 in Hainan Strait, South China, reporting imminent danger of capsizing, and requesting assistance.
Ship sank after distress signal
SAR ships and ships in the area responded. Soon after issuing distress SHUNAN66 capsized and sank.
Crew rescued?
- 4 crew managed to get to the lifeboat and few others were later picked up safely.
- 6 crew members were missing.
- 2 were spotted in water and were found dead after picking up.
- Both were identified as SHUNAN66 crew members.
- 4 crew remain missing.
