A general cargo vessel, flying the Barbados flag, was involved in an incident on July 30th while en route from Rotterdam Waalhaven to the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel, Germany. The vessel allided with a jetty at the entrance to the small locks.
Details of the Incident
The allision occurred as the vessel was approaching the locks from the Elbe River. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the crew or any environmental pollution resulting from the collision. The full extent of the damage to both the vessel and the lock infrastructure is currently unknown.
Investigation and Detention
Following the incident, local authorities confirmed that the vessel has been detained by the Water Police. This is a standard procedure while an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the allision. The vessel, built in 1994, is 87.87 meters long, 12.8 meters wide, and has a carrying capacity of 3,632 tonnes.
