Thick Lake Superior ice near Marquette is causing a delay for another Great Lakes vessel.

Bad Weather

The National Weather Service says strong winds and high waves from the early week storm compressed the remaining ice cover between Marquette and Whitefish Bay.

The Rescue Operation

The Kaye E. Barker is stuck in compressed ice near Picnic Rocks. The Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw arrived Thursday morning to break the ice around the 767-foot long vessel.
